Steffanie Lorig spent her childhood drawing, doodling, and painting on any surface available to her. The family moved several times, eventually settling in Tucson, where the Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos took hold of her imagination and laid the foundation for an appreciation for vibrant colors and iconic imagery. Her parents and teachers encouraged her art-making and she combined her interest in design, illustration, and writing, majoring in Visual Communication. She spent the next ten years in the graphic design field working for both corporate and private design studios. During this time, she recognized a need and an opportunity to use art to help high-need children and created Art with Heart, a nonprofit dedicated to helping kids through creativity. Since its founding, the organization has helped over 145,000 children in need worldwide and has produced a portfolio of therapeutic activity books for children as well as supporting curricula. She also served as the organization's CEO and creative lead for professional trainings, teaching therapists how to use creativity to engage children and teens in a meaningful way. After leading the organization for twenty years, Steffanie has returned to her roots and has been exploring creative avenues, including painting and design.
