I first read Sime de Beauvoir’s “The Second Sex” when I was 16. It made me angry, confused and sad about the gender constructs that restrict us. This piece celebrates these existential thinkers for their revolutionary ideas and contribution to second wave feminism. Their influences, Mary Wollstone Craft, Kierkegaard and Nietzsche are also honored in the books that rest on their table.
