The assignment was to create an illustration dealing with pattern. I decided to portray Sakyamuni Buddha attaining enlightenment under the boddhi tree, and consequently freeing the souls trapped in Samsara, which is the duty of the Boddhisattvas in both Zen and Shingon Buddhist sects,thus using visual pattern to evoke a spiritual pattern.
