For a feature about the games of pick-up soccer played in No Man’s Land at Christmas in 1914 between German and Allied soldiers. I wanted to address both the hope and symbolism of the event, and the trepidation and mistrust I can only imagine the soldiers must also have felt. I did my best to put myself in their shoes and treat the story with respect.
