For a trivia quiz page about NC soldiers in which I chose to spotlight Lawrence Joel, a US Army Sergeant, paratrooper, and medic who served in Vietnam, and the first living African-American soldier to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor since the Spanish-American War. In an ambush in which his battalion was outnumbered six to one, he risked his life to save many wounded soldiers, himself taking two bullets and continuing to move between the wounded and save lives in a firefight that lasted over 24 hours.
