This artwork accompanies the Medical Science article “A Gut Feeling” by Nancy Averett, Coloradan Magazine, University of Colorado Boulder.
We have chosen a symbolic interpretation to communicate the link between the brain and gut. We have represented the brain and the gut like a sun. To represent the neurological diseases (depression, autism) we have imagined the man face wrapped in a black cloud.
