Commissioned by Texas Monthly for their podcast on the true story of the Texas Rangers. “They’re the first American superheroes, the legendary riders in white hats, Los Diablos Tejanos—the Texas Rangers. “White Hats” tells the story of one of Texas’s defining symbols. For some Texans, the white hats mean justice and protection. But other Texans grew up with haunting memories of “los Rinches,” and the violence they visited upon Mexicans and Mexican Americans. On the eve of their 200th anniversary, host Jack Herrera explores the Rangers’ true legacy.”
