This series of works is based on a Chinese book Hell Scene Painting and the description of hell in Buddhist scriptures, combining the punishment in hell with modern life to depict a series of contemporary hell paintings.
The book depicts the various punishments. She uses vivid colors, a combination of Eastern and Western cultures, and objects from daily life to show a contemporary hell that the audiences do not feel “scary”. Only women, children, or babies appear in her hell series. It reflects the predicaments that women suffer in the workplace and the unequal treatment in the family.
